KIDNEY stones and other stoners
ahhh been a long time since i posted something and it was hernias and kidney stones rather than medical herbs from moncton. I once again am so disappointed in this Harper and his harpies removing our culture and creative things like CBC, gallery support and the like and instead he pours billions of our tax bucks into war machines like the F35 which like the subs he bought will never fly - what happened to my Canada the one that was peacekeeping and so lovely with helping the downtrodden with compassion now it's helping them with a taser - Harper's wish to turn our country into a mini hamerica with cops beating the shit outta people rather than talking them into co-operation - ahhhh this is one time i wish for the good old days when our arts were supported by our government ... after all we are defined by our CULTURE not by our warplanes ... aren't we??

Making movies for $40,000 bucks says the latest post from British source
That made me chuckle 'cause in Canada most of us would relish the thought of having that much money to make a movie - mostly we do shoestring budgets and mostly broken shoestrings gathering kind and generous people who work for fun/creative reasons rather than moola only - those enormour budgets that HOLYwoody purports to have to shoot 100mil movies are absolutely impossible in fact that amount can come into a Canadian reality which would be like 1/100th of that amount would be enormously generous budgets.... and u know when the CRTC forced radio stations to play Cdn Music in Prime Time, the music biz here bossomed - if THE CRTC FORCED TV & THEATRE OUTLETS TO DO THE SAME like in QUEBEC our movies would thrive and our output increase in quality and quantity - but that will never haPPEN - HOLYWOODY has us by the gonads and always will since guys like Harper bows to their needs not the creator's needs

Well things move slowly ... working away but slowly some aches and pains and stones
Yeah BEAUTIFUL BACHELORS moving along while my two docs on homelessness/mental illness are preping for festivals/etc POETRY OF PAYNE about homeless street poet ROBERY PAYNE is now no longer homeless with the help of the sisters at ST FELIX in Toronto's Queenwest area a warm and respectable place was found for ROB who now is in his homesweet - a great moment in his life as his alleyway home was being locked for CONDOworld to take over like how they are taking over much of Toronto's downtown and turning it into some sort of dull-non artistic, non creative venue - now that's very sad indeed.

EVANCHUCK writes about 'When Things Fall Apart'
EVANCHUCK writes about WHEN THINGS FALL APART .. so slowly, so quickly, so dangerously insecure
Came across another fighter the other day - not in WaawaaHarperLAND but in BigCIty - he's also a man who's gone thru a lot; lost a lot; and is trying to get some of that 'lot' back ... not easy when u're well into or past middles age and when things u know have fallen apart - newspapers are not the same, getting press coverage isn't the same, promoting shit isn't the same so the learning curve always climbs upward - people flock like ants on the hill to view the latest Apple event which is really nothing more than more shit for people to buy stuff they usually don't need but somehow they have been convinced they do need it ... what happened to common sense, purpose, individualism and stuff like that? Rather sad how we all gather wool ... and baaaa baaa baaaa but today and for a long time life has been just fine, thank ya'll... as BOB says, 'Don't worry be happy; cause everything's gonna be alright.' STAY TUNED to a NEW FEATURE DOC 'WHEN THINGS FALL APART' now in pre production that will doc 'THE FALLING'

A life lived more thoughtful, contemplative and productive and that's good
Yes it was not a fun year .. well not all of it some of it was did a lotta kayaking, movie-makihng, book-making, biking, hiking and then was hit with incredible stomach pain so severe had to call the ambulance to take me to hospital ( i live with cancer so hat's always a concern when such pain occurs since i'm hoping it's not some outbreak again and more chest splitting surgery required ) - my new life style excludes a lotta the night life fun i used to have until the cancer hit me. Unlike many of my comrades, amigos, colleagues and friends who died, i managed to survive to become an elder. An elder a everyone knows, has a life of moan&groan and 'freedom55' isn't any freedom for most. But that all said i enjoy life and have no interest to not enjoy it so i turned my energy, talent and moola into making creative work thus along came bookshandmade.com and movieshandmade.com and GOOP gallery. With my partner HELENE we have fun making art and making all sorts of creative things .. and thus a happy new beginning to a life lived hard and rough and now lived more thoughful, contemplative and productive... and that's good...

the Sir Charles GD ROBERTS project continues slowly but surely
HELENE LACELLE's illustration of the crying oxen creates a totally
modern 'look' to the hundred year old animal stories of GD ROBERTS, a NB
born and raised writer who 'created' the animal story wherein he
treates so called 'wild beasts' as humans i.e. they think and feel and
react as we human animals do - along with E.T. SETON he was the first in
the world to do so and as a result became world famous for these
stories - his first collection of anmal stories sold 80,000 copies in
N.A. which considering it was about 100 years ago this was fantastic.

ahhh the life of an elder filled with aches and payne's and delays and Hernias, cancer, kidney stones and torn rotator cuff
yes the elder world full of aches, pains and illness whether we wer too lazy, too careless or too rough and tough on life, there comes a time ... yes and that time for me started in 2006 when my chest was split open, ribs split and a huge cancer tumour removed - and forever more .. i live with cancer go in for annual tests/scans and as long as it doesn't grow no more heart splitting surgery ... well, that's the tip of my 'berg' 'cause this past summer i passed some stones the kidney kind and just died of poop and pain on my way to shoot the ROBERTS' project in the Maritimes from editing B.B. in Montreal ( MC SARDA is editor did THE FASTRUNNER won numerous awards ) - projectile diahrea stopping on the roadside frequently - the #40 has some nice fertilizer. Anyway, enough of that and on with the story many but not all have a beginning, a middle and an end, but not this one at least not yet - yesterday was in hospital to have me HERNIA made back into a HIMnia i.e. flat tummy time - so all night and all day and for a few more days i'm trying to rest/sleep/avoid lifting more than a cup of tea - thus my projects once again are on backburner for a few more days ... ahh life in the slow lane isn't for me...
Rob Payne is now 'roomed' no longer homeless and wants me to catch up to his life in Toronto for B.B. as a man of means - his alleyway home is now kaput - boarded and fenced off and so that part of his life is over as he re-aquaints himself finally after 8 years living 'living rough' outside with living 'on the inside' in his room with a very limited view - basement apartment room.

the sir Charles GD ROBERTS book and documentary .. update
last year i started documenting all of ROBERTS associations with NB: his birthplace in Douglas, his upbringing in Westcock around the Tantramar Marsh, his home on George Street in Fredericton, his burial spot near his university the UofNB, his schools and places of education/etc. This was for a book the front cover is exhibited above and for a documentary in progress ... the book will be published in Jan.2014.

the SIR CHARLES GD ROBERTS project ongoing and slowly advancing
so on location working away on the ROBERTS project which intends to become a documentary and a book - the book which is comprised of selections from his 'animal stories' with illustrations by HELENE LACELLE is well on the way and soon to be published - ROBERTS is known now only as 'the father of CDN poetry' but also the author who created the 'animal story' where the animals have human-like characteristics - they think, feel and act often like we do... they are not dumb creatures or at least no dumber than we are.. He was born in Douglas, NB and raised in Westcock, NB where his father was rector of St Mary's church located in the heart of the famous Tantramar Marsh. It's from his early days living in and around this marsh that Roberts picked up his love and understanding of nature.

ROBERT PAYNE formerly homeless street poet now living domestic no longer 'rough in alley' ROB PAYNE now HOMED
With the help of the NUN's at St Felix, ROB managed to get a room and gave up his alley home or rather perhaps his alley home closed down on him - someone fenced it off/boarded it up and ROB would have to find another home sweet if he wanted to remain homeless but after 8 years living outside in Toronto now 50 years old, he was feeling the negative affects of his life style sooooo with the devoted help of the NUN's ROB PAYNE now HOMED ( he was on CBC's the NATIONAL Friday last )
BUILDING NEW STUDIO ... Beautiful Bachelors resting for now while building - G.D. ROBERT's book/doc moving along again
So one does what one does ... yep another Yogi saying or was that Steven the Seagull? - read a funny comment about him that he's the only man who gained hair in his elder years in fact gained a widow's peak - must be natural says the comment on one of his movies. Sir G.D.ROBERT's research going well for book almost got it completed waiting for HELENE's illustrations - gonna combine her very unique stuff with Robert's traditional animal stories ... the doc is at a very early stage just gathering image so far.

ahhh the pain the pain ... temporary halt to BEAUTIFUL BACHELORS
It's rather amazing how things get in the way of movie-making. Take my shoulder ( yes i know the Groucho Marx line but i think it's about his wife ) well i slipped on some wet slimy rocks while portaging my 90 lb canoe along the Bay of Fundy in New Brunswick and wrenched my left shoulder. The pain came hours later and never left for several days - no sleep, no rest and no editing or doing much of anything except moaning and groaning and doing things to ease the pain ... I know it's rather late to post this but i haven't been attentive to much until the pain left and now in recovery i can lift a cookie to my mouth ... and that's just fine!

here's some thing on my new FEATURE doc BEAUTIFUL BACHELORS
EVANCHUCK's thoughts on the ins and outs of making things or how to live with cancer and still 'LIVE' - BEAUTIFUL BACHELORS
Like so many others i manage to survive operations that split my chest open to clear all that stuff inside of cancer and to remove a very large tumour that had grown from my thyroid down into my lung area - fortunately i had two surgical teams on throat the other chest who did a great job since i'm still alive and able to live sort of normally.
Biking, kayaking, sailing and making movies although now go slower and longer than perhaps 'normal' ; nevertheless, I'm still up and at 'em. Health has now become paramount to my present and future on this lovely planet.
My latest venture is a feature doc. BEAUTIFUL BACHELORS which pays homage to three amazing guys i've hung with for decades who are now also in rough shape: Gerry 96, LARROW 87 and ROBERT 50. The feature length documentary traces some of those decades, some of those wonderful years of befriending each other and managing to continue to live thru 'hard times'.
My other two docs now doing the festival circuit and conference circuit - MARKO'SMANIA, THE POETRY OF PAYNE, completed over the past few years also traces lives of people i've lived life with over decades thru the ups and downs, thru the good and the bad - the shit and the gravey one might term it. hard living and hard drinking and hard full lives gave us all a taste of something so special without boundries that most middle classless people in today's worlds are terrified to cross into. Those limitless boundries, of course, had things like fairness and compassion; thus, today we are still friends, still tolerating the other's 'oddities' but now unlike much of those decades of living fully, i'm documenting as much as i can, pulling out decades of 8mm footage, still 35mm pics, and whatever i can find that will give the viewer a small look at what a big world we lived in and as that old movie titles 'we had a WONDERFUL LIFE that now is ..... mmmmm not over yet - watch out here comes BEAUTIFUL BACHELORS !!
excuse me now i have to nap....
GERRY died a short while back from exposure... very sad indeed but his bi-polar energy kept him fully alive for 96 years!

In Toronto to continue shoot of BEAUTIFUL BATCHELORS - didn't go all that well but then it never does but one has to persist to create the 'art'. BEAUTIFUL BACHLORS the movie begins XmasDay 2012
![]() |
| Homeless Street Poet ROBERT THOMAS PAYNE & buddy AUGUSTUS LARROW |
That all over with ( i live with cancer and go in for annual tests ) i march to the creative folks tune once again. Yep BEAUTIFUL BACHLORS captures the life× on Toronto's QueenWest of homeless Poet ROBERT PAYNE and his buddy AUGUSTUS LARROW both are living on modest or less income : ROB homeless living in an alleyway opening doors at Tim's for spare change, writing poetry and trying to sell it for living money and getting a small stipend from social assistance. He's adamant that he'll not accept urine smelling, fleabag, junkie filled, dirty rooms in rooming houses but demands to be treated as a normal human being despite being feral after 7 years living outside, urban camping in wet or cold year'round sleeping bags in alleys off Queenwest.
LARROW on the other hand has a small one bedroom apartment just off Queen where he's opened his door too often and to too many people in need who often steal from him but NOT ROBERT who helps shop and answers to his needs. They both survive, both marginalized surviving as the living poor in Canada's richest city, Toronto.
BEAUTIFUL BACHELORS covers 6 years in their friendship, surrounded by their declining health and life amid changing times of their neighbourhood as CONDOworld takes over, where the S&Ms invade like barbarians trying to make the art area of QueenWest resemble and remind them of ScaRBERIA or MessySAUGA with Loblaws, NewBanks, Newfurniture stores, ShopperDrugMart remind one of a wealthy section of Bloor rather than the grunge of former art colony - QUEENwest.
They are buddies in good and bad times helping each other as they survive the changing times of their worlds with humour, humanity and modest hubris.

buddies in bad and good times ROBERT PAYNE street poet with PETER EVANCHUCK
Last weekend at Toronto's QUACrawl at Trinity Park about 20,000 guests and 250 artists including us showed&sold their creative work - buddies dropped by to help out and chat - good fun had by all - after celebrated at JAVA HUT with MILLS organic brews using my Garden 'sroom moola to pay the tab..
POSTCARD from TORONTO::: Photos from my two old buddies LARROW & GERRY
It's sad to see so many of my buddies passing away - while in Toronto i found out GUITAR PETE only 48 died last year heart failure/drugs - that's 27 guys i used to hang with have died in the past ten years - very sad indeed - poor LARROW is on his way out ... both bachelors are very thin but old GERRY being bi-polar is full of vim&vinigar came on the streetcar all the way to the Art show/sale which is about 5k's from his home - he had this, just met, young British gentleMAN help him off the street car and pushed his walker after finding out where in the maze of 250 tents/artists HELENE was located but they did!! - i said there were 5,000 visitors but that was wrong i just found out the count was more like 20,000 - a great show/sale and huge moola to be made - i sold 180 'srooms and could have sold more but of the 200 , 20 were not saleable i.e. cracked/forgot to put in spike - at $10. each mmmmmm moola for a month OR SO.. holiday this January in BELIZE & GUATEMALA (where I used to have a camp/shack/house not sure what one would call it - but in BELIZE it was called a house but it was sort of like RICK's shack/camp )
Photos from Toronto art show/sale QWAC ::: MARKO, ME, GERRY at 96 - he took the streetcar amazing !!
MARKO POLAKIWSKY's life with bi-polar illness is documented in Evanchuck's MARKO'sMANIA a half hour doc - GERRY McCORD plays a small part in it walking along Queen west with MARKO a decade ago or more ago...

The BIG UKE Lebowski's with small cameras
PETER EVANCHUCK and MARKO POLAKIWSKY pose for HELENE LACELLE's camera before they take off to continue the NB UNESCO World Heritage BIOSPHERE shoot. Based in Chipman, they will spend time shooting the Biosphere then camp overnights as they move thru NS capturing the UNESCO world Heritage sites at GRAND PRE, JOGGINS and LUNENBERG. This is a lifelong documentation for MARKO who has crisscrossed Canada many times shooting, like Ansel Adams, using a 6x4.5 format Mamiya 645 . He and Evanchuck first started the documentary MARKO'sMANIA in 1999 when they went across eastern Canada recording the sites. After a ten year hiatus, MARKO has overcome his bi-polar illness to continue pursuing his dream to document and publish a book on all the Canadian Heritage sites. Meanwhile Evanchuck is, with the help of HELENE LACELLE and MC SARDA, completing several documentaries on marginalized, good people who have overcome serious problems to pursue a life in creative work to contribute to their life and the lives of others.

BOY times and times fly in all directions in movie WORLD
Ok ok we're all busy busy busy and all of us who are new and learning all about FinalCutPro6 then gets FCPro7 and has to learn about that as well as all the other shit one has to fill their snappy cells with means - it takes away the fevour of keeping one's blogs 'up to date'
Well now things have slowed down a bit the movies are heading for the festival roundups and hopefully will make a big splash like me when i belly flop off the flotilla of my endeavours - sorry for the absence of malice the biting wit and heavy satire of my comments about trying to learn a new field when one is well over the hillock of life's shining light of youthfullness.
Blessed me those who never stop life by stopping to learn something hard and new....
Peter the Cancer Survivor now Peter the FinalCutPro survivor !!

PETER EVANCHUCK begins JOHNNY DOUGH-HO HUNTER - his first fiction movie in years
![]() |
| pic: Marilyn Mazerolle and Joe Blades pose in the pristine white marital cave of good and evil... home of the HOMIES:: Ms and Mr HUBBY |
director/producer/cameraman PETER EVANCHUCK begins JOHNNY DOUGH-HO HUNTER - his first fiction movie in years
first shoot day with local actors/artists, Marilyn Mazerolle and Joe Blades, took place last Saturday with EVANCHUCK's usual no rehersals, no script, no meetings type of shoot - Mazerolle and Blades play a happiliy married couple of HOMIES living in a white cave - the former home of Bil Pigeon and Veronica Hasbeen - Mazerolle smiles shyly as she pretends to have enjoyed her honeymoon night with a man called HOMIE (BLADES plays HOMIE HUBBY a pubescent man about poems) who she met the night before at The LIBRARY pub in downtown F'ton:: home of the brave retreat of the yellow bellies.
Mazerolle enjoys acting when not bathing in the limelight of Queeneast where she's been a lifelong resident and gallery owner. Blades who writes poetry in the shower of salted water has run BrokenJaw press for decades catering to the lower strata of blockbusters who no longer watch videos but have returned to 'the written word'.
Their movie marriage is based on moronic lust, after a night at the LIBRARY drowning their sorrows in brews, look up from their daze and gaze on each other since even all the loosers have left and they, being the only two left in the bar, decide they were meant for each other so form a marriage of convenience and are married by the bartender who happens to be known as Mr Tattoo and is released from the NuttyHouse on weekends to marry loco locals.
Each knows JOHNNY DOUGH but neither knows of his whereabouts and cannot help DEPUTY CRUMBUM (played by Evanchuck) find the HO HUNTER - Deputy Crumbum is desperately trying to find a HO before dawn and while he still has a woody.
more to come.... as the director attempts to imagine the next scene in his big head ...

The DECLINE FALL & RISE of PAYNE - notes by docMAKER PETER EVANCHUCK
Making a doc. on a rather famous, homeless poet, ROBERT PAYNE is NOT all a bed of feathers. I've known ROBERT for decades thru thick, thin and the ups and the downs of his and my life. We've managed to remain in contact sometimes with difficulty and sometimes with much difficulty over those decades. Driving 5 hours from Ottawa, or 17 hours from NB isn't the easiest way to make a doc. on a very money-poor, self-financed movie. Recently, ROB's home of 4 years got closed down and one a recent trip down to get some 'pick-ups' i was confronted with a 'No Trespassing' sign where his blue tarp 'cocoon' used to be tucked alongside the wall. So i went looking for ROB but without success - he was no longer at his usual haunts .... so i returned home. Then after an email hiatus, ROB communicated with me again and eventually we managed to hook up and i managed to get my pick ups but his clothing had changed and his appearance had changed so that required a major shift in how the doc. would be structured and that caused some real concerns since the new footage would not be inserted at various points in the doc. as anticipated but would have to be cut and placed as a complete scene and that means a new opening which just isn't working out as planned since we had already structured a rather good opening and closing of the doc.... now as the saying goes, 'what to do; what to do'
The DECLINE, FALL and RISE OF PAYNE is slowly moving toward it's completion and i'm slowly learning more and more about FINALCUT pro 6 and 7 since I do believe that all moviemakers or as we used to call ourselves 'filmakers' should know about camera/editing to make their movie THEIR MOVIE and not the cameraman's or editor's movie ... more on this later...
ROB tells me that that someone somehow wants to take my title and put it on their doc. mmmmmm now that's a no no, guys!!
ROB tells me that that someone somehow wants to take my title and put it on their doc. mmmmmm now that's a no no, guys!!

GERRYlive - the life and times of a man who at 96 struggles to live fully and for himself
![]() |
| Sophia and Gerry McCord at the Paddock Tavern on Queen W. in Toronto, 1991 |
GERRY was and is one of those normal citizens who lived in the area in the senior citizens aparatments. He was always out and about always walking, checking things out paying attention to things that inerested him which were very unusual. The locals knew him as the man who was out every day and night wandering in and out of places. He was a man who was then in his 70's who loved geometry, who actually met and spoke rather often with world famous, projectile geometer, Coxeter. GERRY would bring his geometric ramblings into the Paddock tavern at Bathurst and Queen and amid the BOPkids on BOPnight would want to go thru his endless meanderings of point a, point b and so on. He was wild about geometry, women and life and, he was and is, an undiagnosed bi polar who is now at the age of 96 still filled with the fevour of the mania but settled in his senior citizens apartment and with failing eyesight and failing health finally calming down fearing that a fall on his replaced hips might cripple him for life and that he says would mean suicide, 'No point living like that .. in a chair!'
I have been recording bits and pieces of my encounters with GERRY over those decades, sometimes nothing more than notes on a pad, other times photographs, sometimes video or film but always memory placed his personality into my movements thru life -
As my life took me away from Queen west, I never forgot GERRY and still, when in Toronto, go see him and listen to his hours and hours of thoughts of his life, his actions, his way of living those many decades as a single man attached only to himself and as he says, 'I'm always in love... in love with myself.'
An odd way to sum up ones life but an honest one and i do believe after those decades of listening to GERRY and watching his life unfold, that he really does mainly care for himself more than any other person and admits it openly; whereas, most people do that but few admit it so boldly...
At the present time when i'm in Toronto i record his life and thoughts and may one day put them into some form of a document that will reveal his life to others - there's only one GERRYlive, believe me!

Peter Evanchuck Looking for MOTION MAGAZINE!
Co-op Members PETER EVANCHUCK and HELENE LACELLE have spent part of their hibernating winter months building new websites/blogs - in particular, EVANCHUCK, who originated and was the publisher and editor of MOTION magazine, figured it was important to gather together all the issues of MOTION and exhibit available copies on line since it's probably one of the important pieces of Canadian Film/Theater/TV history - 'We would like to make the contents of MOTION available to all interested organizations/persons so figured the best way would be to put them on line.' - and so they've been worked at it and now slowly but surely, it's appearing on line.
Articles on probably all the the early flim/theatre/tv personalities up to 1980 were probably in one or many issues of MOTION - this could range from very popular persons like Alan King, Claude Jutra, Pierre Berton, Don Shebib or Donald Sutherland to lesser known ones like Peter Pearson, Michel Breault, Richard Leiterman or Daniel Pilon. 'MOTION was the only national magazine of it's sort before and at that time and perhaps still is the only one. It was such fun looking at all those old articles. Nostalgia just poured out of me as i recallled those days. We were
all so very hopefully that somehow the Canadian 'scene' would blossom, bloom and explode but unfortunately then, like now, it was held back by bad political decisions and the force of Hollywood.'
Since they are missing some issues anyone who may have knowledge of those issues to sell (we'll pay up to $50. for pristine copies) - "It would be mighty fine to have a complete set of all the issues but so far we're still missing about a dozen."
